When we got our invitation to learn more from and about Travelstart and to join their conversation about photography & travel and to learn secrets behind creating epic travel images and videos we knew this was one not to miss.
The welcome and hospitable experience we had on arrival was really a good start to the evening where we were warmly introduced and offered arrival drinks.
We were of course looking forward to hear what the guest speakers had to say and on the line up was Dean and Darren from Travelvids who really put the sophisticated technology driven HQ for Travelstart to use with it’s sleek accessibility and super big screen, showing us how easy it is to use video and the apps available for sharing your travel experiences. Dean gave us his check list of what he uses to get the right shots and videos to stitch together with the apps available and it was really great to see how easy he actually made it look. People would rather watch a short clip of your experience than scrolling through an album of images.
Craig Howes | SoCoMunity gave us a break down of what he does and using platforms on social media as an option for generating income. Though he warned that one has to be careful about how these platforms trend and could easily become redundant and that one should not rely on it. His best work yet has been to create content was the Earth Diaries | Iceland video which was really amazing!
Craig Rhodes-Harrison shared with us key aspects of understanding and using GoPro as a tech product for creating content and also apps to help edit your content. He also shared what the GoPro Awards Program was all about and participating in their submit challenge where you could submit raw content and this could then be used for consumer driven content to be used by GoPro as well as being rewarded in cash if your content is chosen.
During the talks there was some great prizes handed out with questions asked and some seats had prizes stuck to the bottom too, we were one of the lucky ones for answering a question and won a zipline experience at Piekenierskloof Mountain Resort organised by West Coast Way. We had some lovely snacks and drinks for a quick break in between the talks and got to network a bit too. At the end of the talks we had some more networking and photo opportunities and got a really informative and interesting tour of the 3 floors that is the Travelstart HQ. It is therefore no surprise after this tour and getting to see and hear what their team gets up to that they are the leading online travel agency in Africa!
This sign particularly stood out for us whilst having a look around the Travelstart office space as “we believe in making things happen is only by your own doing and connecting with the right people you meet”
