John Scheepers: “A Theology of Violence”
Over the last few years, South Africa has been exposed to frequent acts of violence, many of which have been politically or racially motivated.
Christians have usually condemned these acts of violence, while at times showing sympathy for the underlying concerns and issues that have provoked the violence. Many activists though have responded by calling for a broader definition of violence.

IN Our WORDS Local Short Film Screening
We are very excited for this first event (of many) where we provide a platform for emerging artists to screen their work and engage with local audiences.
To celebrate this we are using the opportunity to have a small party for the Bertha Movie House’s first birthday. Some of the very first films were screened here in October last year and we are so happy that, one year later, the community cinema has screened more than 60 films and had more than 2500 visits. Perhaps most importantly, our cinema culture is reignited, growing and not shying away from having difficult discussions about issues that the films raise.

Street Food from Around the world
Forget fine dining.
Across the globe, some of the best, most authentic local dishes are cooked right on the street. Typically, street food is tasty, ready-to-eat food or drink sold on the street, in a market, fair, park or other public place. It is sold by a hawker or vendor from a portable stall, cart or food truck. Some street foods are regional but many are not, having spread beyond their place of origin and enjoyed locally for their exotic or unusual ingredients and flavors.
The Teachings of Nature
“Man feels himself isolated in the cosmos, because he is no longer involved in nature and has lost his emotional ‘unconscious identity’ with natural phenomena. No voices now speak to man from stones, plants and animals, nor does he speak to them believing they can hear. His contact with nature has gone, and with it has gone the profound emotional energy that this symbolic connection supplied.” – Carl Jung

Running in polluted environments drains energy, while running in pristine surrounds lifts the soul and with it, performance. Everyday Anomaly | 9 Sep – 15 Oct 2017
Normality, an idea so ingrained in culture that it feels like truth, is an invention of nineteenth century Europe. Originating in statistics, norms first entered language and culture as a means to describe the distribution of human characteristics, a way to talk about bodies and behaviours on a grand scale that quickly became synonymous with their typical forms. But it’s a slim line between an average and an ideal at the best of times: what’s true for many can too easily become what should be true for all. Today we’re most familiar with the norm as a standard by which we judge ourselves and each other. Normality is conditioned, and it is conditional.
