Nina Torr (with Allen Laing) | The Way Back | 25 Oct – 25 Nov 2017
The strange figures in Torr’s intimately-scaled paintings journey across desolate landscapes, under dark skies. These undefined, liminal spaces function as internal landscapes, with the creatures serving as figurations of the roles we play, and our relationships.

Ilené Bothma | Theatre of the Mother-Cord | 25 Oct – 25 Nov 2017
In this solo exhibition at 99 Loop, Cape Town-based Ilené Bothma celebrates what she calls a ‘weird marriage’ – between the artistic and domestic self, between fine art and craft materials, and between critical distance and emotional experience.

Iziko Museums has the following events/exhibitions:
Iziko Slave Lodge
Until 31 December 2017 | Material women? The shweshwe story
By means of costumes, accessories and contextual images, this exhibition traces the origins of isishweshwe cloth from its roots as a trade item in Asia and Europe, to its establishment as a much-loved southern African material icon.

Until 28 February 2018 | Through Positive Eyes is an exhibition which builds on the work of South African photographer Gideon Mendel, harnessing the power of the arts to banish HIV stigma.

Iziko South African National Gallery
Until 15 December 2017 | At Face Value
While most portraits focus on the face, others reveal more about the environment and social relationships, especially between an artist and a sitter.

Until 18 March 2018 | Assessing Abstraction
As the scratchings on the 70 000-year-old Blombos ochre reveal, that non-figurative mark-marking long predates the very notion of ‘art’ itself.

Until 31 May 2018 |  ‘Alternative Press’ – Work of Derek Bauer
Is an exhibition of original cartoons dedicated to the talent of cartoonist Derek Bauer. He became well-known for his inherently irreverent cartoons and caricatures of politicians and other prominent figures during the troubled and Apartheid-stricken South Africa and the turbulent world in the 1980s.

Iziko South African Museum
Until 31 December 2017 | Crossing the Ecoline
Between the atmosphere and the ocean – at the point where the absorption of carbon dioxide takes place – is the “ecoline”. This is where two environments interconnect.

The Bo-Kaap Museum, situated in the historic area that became home to many Muslims and freed slaves after the abolition of slavery, showcases local Islamic culture and heritage.

Groot Constantia Manor House with its exhibition of furniture, paintings, textiles, ceramics, brass, and copperware, provides an insight into the life of a successful 18th to late 19th century Cape farmer.

Koopmans-de Wet House
This house museum is furnished as a home for a well-to-do Cape family during the late 18th Century. It houses some of the best pieces of Cape furniture and silver in the country, in addition to a priceless collection of ceramics.

The Iziko Maritime Centre features an overview of shipping in Cape Town, and the earliest existing model of Table Bay harbour, completed in 1885 by prisoners and warders of Breakwater Prison, forms part of the exhibitions.

The Iziko Planetarium and Digital Dome, one of only 6 fully fledged planetaria on the African Continent, brings the most advanced digital visualisation technology to Cape Town.

Rust en Vreugd was built as a home for Willem Cornelis Boers, a high-ranking official of the VOC (Dutch East India Company) known as a fiscal, around 1777–1778.

Social History Centre
After a three-year programme of renovation and extension of the National Mutual Building on Church Square, it was handed back to Iziko during a media preview event held on International Museum Day, 18 May 2010.
