Queens in Exile is about telling better stories. This isn’t simply a revisionist exercise, patching up inconvenient holes in the historical record. Instead, Ruga excavates collective memory and exclusionary national myth to rebuild both in wholly new shapes – to make a world where the exiled can reign. The result is a land of many queens, lost and found and forgotten.

Im Eimer Somerset West
Im Eimer is a German saying for when something has been used till its utmost potential until no longer useful. The theme is all things old and the decor is detailed and creatively thought out to give you hours of observation time. The literal meaning in the bucket has no relation but you may see many buckets on the premises to keep guests guessing.

The Thirsty Oyster Tavern
Legend has it that old Rasta on the Roof found this shipwreck in the Old Harbour and turned it into a pub and restaurant called ‘The Thirsty Oyster Tavern’, where, to quote him, ‘home is where the anchor drops’. So why not drop anchor here for a while, crack open that careworn shell and slip into our relaxed and friendly ambiance – whether it be in the cool breezes of summer or by the warm, cosy fires in winter – we have 3 fireplaces to ensure you stay nice and warm. And that infamous South Easter? Don’t fuss! We’re pretty sheltered, tucked in as we are, between the Naval College and the National Sea Rescue facility.
