Alvin Dyers Quartet – Casa Labia Summer Jazz Concert Series
Alvin Dyers’ quartet features Zeke le Grange, one of the most exciting young saxophonists in South Africa, with Tino Europa on bass and Roy Davids on drum kit. This quartet has played together for many years, performing classic jazz standards, South African jazz and original compositions with a uniquely Capetonian sound, that blends elements of Latin music, Cape goema, African music and straight-ahead jazz.
Report Back: States of Grace
This report back lecture will relive, ‘States of Grace’, a series of performances hosted for the 2017 opening of Zeitz MOCAA. This included performances by Gabrielle Goliath, Jacki Job, Mamela Nyamza and Faniswa Yisa which considered the implicit function of space and time in relation to the black female body. The lecture will look at photographic and video documentation to review the themes of decolonisation and nationhood, restriction of movement, voyeurism and the fetishisation of the female form, and the metaphorical reclamation of space through performance.

“The Spiritual Grunge” exhibition is a group show where 12 diverse artists express our current state of apathy, comment on the “whatever” generation, and explores how artists, be visual, musical or performing find their creative “spirit” in a world riddled with ugly obstacles. The tragic grunge god, Kurt Cobain, served as visual iconography and metaphorical inspiration for this exhibition.

A three-day open drawing workshop was initiated towards the end of December 2017.
The space was open to anyone who needed to draw with others. There was no objective or discussion as everyone simply fell into doing their work, coming and going, commenting occasionally. The exhibition has been selected from work made during the three days. It is a workshop exhibition in that their work is open and directly made with good hands and hearts in the spirit of learning/teaching by example.

WHATIFTHEWORLD is pleased to present Queens in Exile – a major solo exhibition of new work by Athi-Patra Ruga.
Queens in Exile is about telling better stories. This isn’t simply a revisionist exercise, patching up inconvenient holes in the historical record. Instead, Ruga excavates collective memory and exclusionary national myth to rebuild both in wholly new shapes – to make a world where the exiled can reign. The result is a land of many queens, lost and found and forgotten.

Iziko Slave Lodge
The Slave Lodge is one of the oldest buildings in Cape Town. The many names of the building over three centuries – Slave Lodge, Government Offices Building, Old Supreme Court, and SA Cultural History Museum – reflect the long and rich history of the building.
Until 28 February 2018 | Through Positive Eyes is an exhibition which builds on the work of South African photographer Gideon Mendel, harnessing the power of the arts to banish HIV stigma.
Iziko South African National Gallery
South Africa’s premier art museum houses outstanding collections of South African, African, British, French, Dutch and Flemish art.
Selections from the Permanent Collection change regularly to enable the museum to have a full programme of temporary exhibitions of paintings, works on paper, photography, sculpture, beadwork, textiles and architecture. Updates of the various exhibitions can be viewed on their web page on bottom right section.
Iziko South African Museum
The South African Museum houses more than one and a half million specimens of scientific importance. The collections now range from fossils almost 700-million years old to insects and fish caught last week. There are also stone tools made by people 120 000 years ago, traditional clothes from the last century, and T-shirts printed yesterday.
The Bo-Kaap Museum, situated in the historic area that became home to many Muslims and freed slaves after the abolition of slavery, showcases local Islamic culture and heritage.
Groot Constantia Manor House with its exhibition of furniture, paintings, textiles, ceramics, brass, and copperware, provides an insight into the life of a successful 18th to late 19th century Cape farmer.
Koopmans-de Wet House
This house museum is furnished as a home for a well-to-do Cape family during the late 18th Century. It houses some of the best pieces of Cape furniture and silver in the country, in addition to a priceless collection of ceramics.
The Iziko Maritime Centre features an overview of shipping in Cape Town, and the earliest existing model of Table Bay harbour, completed in 1885 by prisoners and warders of Breakwater Prison, forms part of the exhibitions.
The Iziko Planetarium and Digital Dome, one of only 6 fully fledged planetaria on the African Continent, brings the most advanced digital visualisation technology to Cape Town.
Rust en Vreugd was built as a home for Willem Cornelis Boers, a high-ranking official of the VOC (Dutch East India Company) known as a fiscal, around 1777–1778.
Social History Centre
After a three-year programme of renovation and extension of the National Mutual Building on Church Square, it was handed back to Iziko during a media preview event held on International Museum Day, 18 May 2010.
