Three Khoi descendants and their aging cow are migrating to the Eastern Cape. Drama ensues when they come to Intaba KaNdoda, a poverty-stricken community once ruled by the Khoi chief Ndoda. The Khoi descendants, having heard stories of how chief Ndoda was killed in a land dispute, have come to reclaim what is rightfully theirs- they have come to take the land from the AmaXhosa. Kudu is not only about people reclaiming their land, but also their customs, culture, languages and spirituality. It’s a fight for acknowledgement as existing, not extinct.

23 Years a Month and 7 Days | 13 – 24 March 2018
Performed in English, Afrikaans and isiXhosa, the play critically engages the 2015 student protests in SA, and uses the language of storytelling and physical theatre to engage with the struggles faced by woman immersed in social and political environments that are systematically violent. It is set between contemporary SA’s higher learning institutions and Potters Field, a poverty-stricken place where the citizens have lost all hope and anxiously awaits their deaths. Themes of migration and self-actualisation are explored as a young woman of humble upbringing finds her identity in conflict with her environment.

Thirst  | 11 March 2018
Sugar-daddy Theatre co. presents, Thirst, by Eugene O’Neill. It’s somewhat ironic that this one act play (adaptation by Sugar-daddy) is set one hundred years ago, which coincides with the last time Cape Town experienced such a serious drought! The play can be seen as a metaphor for life and borders on absurd-ism… A gentleman, a lady and a sailor are stuck on a raft waiting to be rescued.. what happens next?

To Get To The Moon|  13 – 24 March 2018
A gentle exploration of the lives of married couple, Norman and Bianca. Some years prior to the action of the play they have experienced a traumatic event. The very different ways they have tried to come to terms with this event threaten to destroy their marriage. The play explores themes of responsibility, guilt and blame, the science and art of decision-making and the shame that keeps crucial information hidden. A moving and uplifting experience.

Penny Siopis, This is a True Story: Six Films (1997 – 2017) | 16 Feb – 15 Jul 18
The exhibition evokes ideas of truth as a merging of experience, fact, fiction, imagination and the fragility of memory. Projecting a multiplicity of experiences, Siopis’ films make use of found 8 mm and 16 mm film footage, drawing from official documents, newspaper clippings and personalised accounts of history to create an overlooked historiography.

Lost in Known Territory | 28 Feb – 24 Mar 2018
“Over the years I have collected and catalogued a large selection of images from various sources including books, magazines, websites and social media, personal photo archives, and many more. The figures in this body of work were created from fragments of these images, and their compositions reference certain historical paintings motifs.

This creates subjects that seem to be contextualised and somewhat recognisable, yet they passionately attempt to proclaim their own unique identities, despite our pre-conceived notions. This process examines how we impose identities upon others, and subsequently challenges fashionable standards of beauty and sexualisation.”
